On March 31, April 14, and April 28, MCLA students met to write for 2 hours. Part of the national organization NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, they participated in the Camp NaNoWriMo event throughout the month of April working on novels, short stories, poetry, and more.
The events, sponsored by the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, and led by senior, Brigid Downey, promoted a positive writing environment where students could bounce ideas off each other, talk about what they were working on, and get feedback.
“I’m really excited to be part of an event that will give me more motivation to write,” said Alisha Mueller, a freshman at MCLA.
The attendance for the events were small, but students found that they liked the intimate setting better and it was less distracting and easier to get feedback from their peers.
The Sigma Tau Delta honor society hopes that they can sponsor more of these types of events in the coming years to get students writing on campus.
