January Picks

Hi dreamers!

My gorgeous girlfriend, Josie, does a segment on her blog called Josie Pozie’s Fresh Picks. I don’t have that cute of a name yet (leave suggestions in comments and I’ll give you a shout out if I pick yours!) but I’ve been wanting to start doing this monthly for a while. It’s a segment where she chooses her favorite things from the month as well as what she’s reading, listening to, watching on Netflix, etc. and shares great finds for the month. She is aware that I’m stealing her idea and I would love if you would go show her some love and check out some of her previous monthly picks because she really does this better than I do.

Here are my January 2019 Picks!

What I’m Reading

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward

This is the most important one for a book blogger I think. You probably all want to know what I’ve read this month! Well, I’ve been reading The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward and my god is it fantastic! This is another thing I stole from Josie after she recommended it to me. Even though this month has been crazy and I haven’t gotten as much reading done as I would have liked, I finished the second book, Lover Eternal, (keep an eye out for the review) and started the third book, Lover Awakened.

These boys have stolen my heart and they are positively amazing! If you’re into vampires or paranormal romance 10/10 would recommend this series. Fair warning: bring tissues.

Check out my Review for Book 1: Dark Lover here.

What I’m Listening To

The “Dear Evan Hanson” Soundtrack

I don’t know why I’m so late to the game on this, but I have been listening to the Dear Evan Hanson soundtrack on a loop all month! I love “Waving Through a Window” and “Requiem” so much, and this is all I sing in the shower now. I just think I really needed to hear some of the messages from these songs lately which I think is the point of the musical; to tell you you’re not alone.

What I’m Listening To: Podcasts

My Favorite Murder

Another thing Josie got me into. I have been binge-listening to the My Favorite Murder podcast which is a true crime comedy podcast run by two kickass women Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. The best thing about these women is how they use their platform to talk about mental health awareness and sometimes listening to them calms my own anxiety, even though they’re talking about true crime.

What I’m Watching

The Vampire Diaries

Josie and I have been binge-watching the Vampire Diaries and honestly, I hate this show in the best way possible. It’s emotionally traumatizing, but I love it. Team Stefan all the way (even though Damon has grown on me). I’ve been watching on Netflix, but it’s also available on Amazon down below.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Magnolia Candle

So we got the Cedar Magnolia candle from Target’s home decor line with Joanna and Chip Gaines from Fixer Upper. We bought the candle on a whim because 1) we love Fixer Upper and the Gaines and 2) it smells so good! I think this might beat out my favorite Bath and Body Works candle, Flannel, because it honestly smells amazing and it looks so cute on our kitchen counter.

Buy it here.

Cocktail Shaker

We also go this amazing cocktail shaker that I posted on my Instagram. We’ve been wanting one for awhile, but they’re always so expensive, but then we found this one at Aldi for $5. The best part? It has recipes on the side! Not to mention the fact that the copper color matches our gold bar cart perfectly! I honestly just held it for a while when I took it out of the packaging because it made me so happy.

What are some things you’ve discovered this month that make you happy? Let me know in the comments!

this is such a cute post idea! kind of reminds me of a mini time capsule, or a lil happiness/self-care kit ?

I love how cozy candles are and how good they smell, and it makes me so sad that I can’t have them in my dorm (or the off-campus house I’m moving into this summer) ? and I can totally relate to being late to the musical hype – recently I’ve been playing Hamilton on repeat after years of just … never listening to it? but it’s SO GOOD. ?

I love the idea of it being a time capsule! I was allowed to have an oil diffuser in my dorm because it had an emergency off. I’m not a huge Hamilton fan because I’m a heathen lol but I love Burn!

haha that’s fair! Burn isn’t my top favorite (that spot goes to Wait for It, but ask me again in a few weeks and it might have changed ?) but it’s definitely up there!

My girlfriend and I have SO many candles. It’s a blessing, but also probably a problem. Also, she just got a new wax melter for Christmas and my mom just bought me a new incense burner… We don’t even know what our apartment smells like anymore!
