Every Witch Needs a Familiar | Bookending Autumn 2019

Hi Dreamers!

Bookend events were created by Sam @ FictionallySam and Clo @  cuppaclo. (Two great bloggers and you should check them out!) They host these quarterly events to bring our book blogging community a little closer. They have hosts and prompts and even Twitter chats! (See full explanation post here.)

Today’s prompt is by Jamsu @ Jamsu Dreams!

Prompt:

If you were a witch which magical creatures would you want as your familiar?

Post:

I’m taking a different spin on this prompt:

I’ve said on this blog before that I’m an eclectic Celtic Pagan so therefore I am a witch. Today I would like to tell you about my familiar, Rey.

Rey is a cute tortoiseshell Calico cat who is 3 years old and named after the Star Wars character. She was adopted by my fiancee in August 2016 from the Iowa County Humane Society here in Wisconsin. She was most likely found in a barn in Dodgeville, WI, but she is much too prissy to be a barn cat.

Rey was a runt and she was born with a smushed in snout giving her the nickname “smushy face.” This also gives her some little kitty sinus issues that her moms have to help with and she hates it.

As a familiar she likes knocking everything off my alter and causing lots of havoc. She’s very curious which makes for a good familiar most of the time, except if I’m not doing any magic and she still wants to be in the window behind my alter. It’s honestly a wonder she hasn’t accidentally dipped her tail in a candle. She likes it best when I work on my Grimoire because she can cuddle against me and nap. When I do rituals or spells she is the devoted guard cat outside my circle.

She’s very social and very cuddly. We’re greeted at the door everyday just like a dog and she’s very vocal about when she wants something. She likes to cuddle at our feet or even on top of us. One of Rey’s favorite pastimes is napping near the computer while I type out these blog posts.

The best thing about Rey is she’s so expressive. Her tail is extra long for her body so she curls it in different patterns to communicate. She also has exceptionally expressive facial expressions for a cat and we always seem to understand each other (weather she follows what I say or not– I mean, she’s still an aloof cat.)

What pets do you have? Do they have their own personalities/ way of communicating with you?

Also, yes this was just an excuse to write a whole blog post about my cat.

If you want to adopt a cat please do it through your local humane society or shelter or if you can’t adopt donate your time and volunteer at shelters and humane societies!

Awwww Rey is adorable! She sounds like a great familiar hehe, I have a dog a German Shepherd called Zephyrus (Zephy for short) and I also grew up with another GSD called Sabre who left us when I was 12. But both of them have their own personalities, and Zephy is hilarious. He’s like a grumpy toddler sometimes, and also acts like a cat sometimes with how he shoves his face at your leg to rub himself along you.

She’s the most annoying familiar lol but awww puppies! Josie wants a big dog like that. Rey already is a grumpy toddler and shoves her face into you so Zephy sounds like he’d fit in great around here!

Rey is so cute; what a lovely familiar. I’d love to get a cat in the future – they’re so cute.

she is an adorable, angry monster/cat assistant. And she’s the worst editor ever 🙂
